Cosmetology

Careers in cosmetology programs prepare individuals to care for and beautify hair, skin, and nails. Students are instructed in the art and science of cosmetology as well as all aspects of the industry. Emphasis is placed on hygiene, safety, and sanitation, as well as State Board of Cosmetologists’ rules and regulations

Tricia Oertel

Cosmetology Instructor

I have worked for Parkside CTE in Cosmetology now for 7 years. I love the opportunity Career Technology Education offers to our students. I was a former cosmetology student over 30 years ago.  Working in a salon help pay my way through college.  After earning a degree in education, I combined the two careers. I have managed a salon, owned a salon, taught for a private beauty school, and attended several cutting & coloring classes. I hold countless certifications in the field of cosmetology from safety & sanitation to master colorist. I love doing hair! How lucky am I to get to show my students where “just doing hair “can take you in life.

Valerie Stevenson

Cosmetology Instructor

I am a graduate of Wicomico High School.  I have been teaching Cosmetology for 40 years.

I attended Delmarva Beauty Academy right out of high school and began my teaching career upon graduating.  I have been teaching Cosmetology at Parkside for 35 years.

I love to watch students grow and mature into successful Cosmetologists and open their own salons.
